Commander Thorpe Information

Thorpe was encountered during the Sole Survivor as Corrupted Commander Thorpe. That version of him was much weaker and very easy to defeat back then. But Thorpe is encountered again during The Depths Expedition as Commander Thorpe. Commander Thorpe should not be underestimated at all, and you shouldn't think that he will be as easy to defeat as it was back then when you where at level 1. Thorpe has embraced corruption to the point where he has become more powerful.

First Phase

You can prepare before engaging into battle, Thorpe will be waiting for you at the end of the Crucible of Corruption. He will only engage into battle once you entered the arena so it is recommended that you take your time to prepare, heal, replenish mana and stamina, select the correct gear and discuss strategies with your party. When you enter the arena, don't stay out for too long because the doors will close and maybe you won't be able to help your party. When battle is triggered Thorpe will make a few animations and throw a few dialogues, you cannot inflict damage to him while he does that but you can all use that time to get in the most convenient position around him.

Commander Thorpe inflicts a lot of damage, he may even one-shot one of your healers and it is very hard to tank him out, healers should stay alert. It would be convenient to alter between tanks if your party has more than one, while ranged Players consistently attack him.

Second Phase

When Commander Thorpe is low on health, he will enter into the Second Phase replenishing all his health and he will use many more abilities that can be predicted by listening his callouts. Two Behemoths will come into battle from the center of the arena. Behemoths are very resistant and they will attack the players that are far from Thorpe, so ranged players should move away continously while attacking. During this Phase it is important to avoid dying, because the Behemoths won't give your party enough space to be able to revive anyone.

Commander Thorpe Abilities & Effects

Commander Thorpe can perform the following Abilities during battle and these are the effects:

  • Pull: Thorpe raises his sword while he extends his arm towards a player. Then he pulls that player to him dealing damage.
  • Somersault: Thorpe somersaults towards a player, landing with a slash that deals area damage in a small radius.
  • Summon Behemoth: Thorpe summons forth 2 Corrupted Behemoths while he floats irregularly. These Behemoths deal a lot of damage and launch big boulders that deal damage. Callout: "This will be the last time we meet".
  • Corrupted Beam: Thorpe fires a beam then he will slowly turn the beam around. This beam inflicts massive damage. Callout: "Prepare to have your soul crushed". (Some players have reported that this Beam is sometimes not rendered properly making it invisible)
  • Fire Storm: Thorpe summons a ring of fire at a player's location. Players inside may be safe as long as they do not cross the fire which inflicts a lot of damage. Sometimes he could use this over a dead player to prevent other members of the party from reviving them. Callout: "I will crush you beneath my heel, ant!"
  • Corrupted Blast: Thorpe releases a blast of Corrupted Energy in a radius around him dealing massive damage. Callout: "Time to taste Corrupted steel!"
  • Shoulder Charge: Thorpe charges to a player, knocking them down. On a hit, he will combo attack at you, dealing massive damage. Callout: "Ha! Pathetic!"
