Refining in New World is one of the categories of Trade Skills. Trade Skills are a variety of non-combat skills that the player can invest in and master. Trade Skills belonging to the Refining category focus on turning the raw materials obtained from Gathering skills into materials usable by Crafting skills. Leveling up a Refining skill unlocks the ability to refine a larger variety of resources into higher-level Crafting materials. Leveling up Refining skills
As with all Trade Skills, leveling up Refining skills is done by continuously using the skill. Leveling up in a Refining skill allows for the refining of a wider variety of resources into higher-level Crafting materials. Additionally, leveling up in a Refining skill makes the refiner more resource-efficient, obtaining more refined items for the same amount of resources.
New World Refining Trade Skills
Smelting
Smelting is the Refining process of turning ore into ingots which can then be used to create Weapons, Armor and Ammunition. Ingots can also be used in some Engineering applications. Leveling up in Smelting will allow players to turn higher-tier ores into ingots.
Stonecutting
Stonecutting is the Refining process of turning Raw Gemstones obtained through Mining into Cut Gemstones which can then be socketed into Weapons and Armor with Empty Gem Sockets to provide certain effects. Leveling up in Stonecutting will allow players to cut better versions of Gemstones which then grant stronger effects and bonuses to the equipment they are attached to. Additionally, Stonecutters can refine Stone into Stone Bricks of varying tiers for use in Town Projects.
Leatherworking
Leatherworking is the Refining process of turning Animal Hides gathered through the Skinning skill into Leather which can then be used in a variety of Crafting applications such as Weapons and Armor. Leveling up in Leatherworking allows players to refine animal hides into higher-tier pieces of Leather for crafting better equipment.
Weaving
Weaving is the Refining process of turning Cloth Fiber gathered through the Harvesting skill into usable Cloth Materials for crafting Armor and Storage Bags. Leveling up in Weaving allows players to refine a wider range of fibers into higher-tier materials for crafting even better equipment.
Woodworking
Woodworking is Refining process of turning raw wood gathered through the Logging skill into processed Wood Materials which can then be used in several Engineering recipes as well as Town Projects. Leveling up in Woodworking allows for refining of higher-quality Wood for better equipment and settlement building.
