Gemstones are Materials that can be found throughout New World. Gemstones are useful Materials that grant passive abilities to the piece of Equipment they are slotted into. They can only be slotted into items that have an Empty Gem Socket. Gemstones have different rarities, ranging from Common to Epic. The rarer the Gem, the better the bonus it grants once slotted.
Each Gem has two passive abilities, one for Armor and one for Weapons, and depending on which type of equipment you decide to socket the Gem into, determines the passive bonus that the item obtains.
In order to do so, first you will have to find the Raw Gem from the corresponding Source, and then work it at the Stonecutting Table to obtain a Cut Gem. Once this process, is complete, you are ready to socket it to the desired piece of gear.
There are other uses for Gemstones, especially related to Trinkets and Jewelcrafting.
New World Gemstones Guide
How to Get Gemstones?
You need to first find the raw version of the Gem. To do so, you will have to use your Mining skill on the various Veins that can be found throughout Aeternum.
Please, visit our Mining page for more information about Gathering Raw Gemstones
What to do with the Raw Gemstones?
Once you manage to get your hands on a Raw Gem, you'll soon realize that you can't slot it into any piece of equipment. You have to cut it in order to do so. Head to your nearest Stonecutting Table to work your Raw gem into a Cut one, rendering usable to slot into any gear you want. Note that cutting Gemstones may require a certain level of Harvesting too.
Types and Rarities
There are 15 different types Gemstones in New World. These are: Amber, Amethyst, Aquamarine, Carnelian, Diamond, Emerald, Jasper, Malachite, Moonstone, Onyx,, Opal, Pearl, Ruby, Sapphire, Topaz. Each can be found in different raw forms: Flawed, Normal (just the name, for ex: Amber), Brilliant, and Pristine. Each form is associated with a corresponding Rarity. Common for Flawed, Uncommon for normal, Rare for Brilliant and Epic for Pristine.
How do I know if I my item has a socket?
Any piece of gear that can store a Gem will have this icon and accompanied by the following message "Empty Gem Socket: an empty socket for a gem". You can slot any Gem you want inside that socket. There is no level restriction to do so.
How to Socket
Once you already have all set up, you just need to left-click the Gem and drag it towards the desired empty socket slot. Release it, and the gem will be socketed.
How to remove gems
There is no way to remove Gemstones once they have been slotted into a piece of Gear. So players should be very mindful of this when making this choice. Luckily, if you want to replace an already slotted Gem, you can simply slot a new one. Note that this Replaces the original gem, destroying it in the process.
