New World Leatherworking Guide
Leatherworking is the Refining process of treating raw animal hides gathered through the Skinning skill to produce Leather which can then be used in a variety of Crafting applications such as creating Weapons and Armor. Leveling up in Leatherworking allows players to refine animal hides into higher-tier pieces of Leather for crafting better equipment.
Leatherworking is performed at a Tannery which can often be found in Settlements. Tanneries have a Tier level which can be increased by taking on Town Projects. Note that each type of leather has a tier level requirement in order to craft. This tier level corresponds to the Tannery's tier level. If your settlement's Tannery level does not meet the requirement, you will need to either raise it or find another settlement with a Tannery of a higher tier.
Turning hide into leather requires the player to be of the appropriate Leatherworking level as well. Leveling up in Leatherworking is a straightforward process. Players simply need to continuously turn hides into leather to raise their level in the skill. Collecting resources, however, is more involved and can prove more difficult.
Leatherworking Relies skills
Leatherworking is a great complementary skill for Weaponsmithing and Armoring due to the many recipes in these skill lines that require leather as crafting ingredients. Engineering and Arcana each have a few recipes that require leather as well. Smelting is also directly valuable to players who have invested in the Skinning skill as it is the primary source of hides.
