Stonecutting
Is the Refining process of turning Raw Gemstones into Cut Gemstones which can then be used to create Trinkets.
A higher level in Stonecutting will allow players to cut higher-tier gems.

Stonecutting is a Refining Trade Skill in New World. Stonecutting is the refining process of turning Raw Gemstones obtained through Mining into Cut Gemstones which can then be socketed into Weapons and Armor with Empty Gem Sockets to provide certain effects. Refining skills turn raw resources obtained through Gathering skills into usable Crafting materials and other useful items.  Stonecutting involves the melting down of raw ore into metal ingots and more.

 

New World Stonecutting Information

Stonecutting is the Refining process of turning Raw Gemstones into Cut Gemstones which can then be used to create Trinkets. A higher level in Stonecutting will allow players to cut higher-tier gems.

Stonecutting is performed at a Stonecutting Table which can often be found in Settlements. Stonecuting Tables have a Tier level which can be increased by taking on Town Projects. Cut Gemstones each have a tier level requirement in order to craft. This tier level corresponds to the Stonecutting Table's tier level. If your settlement's table level does not meet the requirement, you will need to either raise it or find another settlement with a Stonecutting Table of a higher tier. Cutting gems requires the player to be of the appropriate Stonecutting level as well. Leveling up in Stonecutting is a straightforward process. Players simply need to continuously cut gems to raise their level in the skill. Collecting resources, however, is more involved and can prove more difficult.

 

Stonecutting Related skills

Stonecutting is a great complementary skill for Jewelcrafting due to the many recipes in the skill line that require gems as crafting ingredients. Stonecutting is also directly valuable to players who have invested in the Mining skill as it is the primary source of raw gemstones.

 

New World Stonecutting Guide

The Stonecutting crafting process begins by interacting with a Stonecutting Table, a crafting station found in Settlements. Within the crafting UI, you can see all your learned recipes on the left panel for all Crafting skills associated with the crafting station. Selecting a recipe displays the item and its required materials in the middle panel while displaying a preview of the potential result on the right.

Displayed in the left panel are all available crafting recipes. Items displayed in White indicate that you meet all the requirements to craft the item. Items displayed in Red indicate that you do not meet one or more of the crafting requirements (Resources, Skill Level, etc.). The small icon to the right of each item displays the crafting skill used and the numerical value represents the minimum level required in the skill in order to craft the item.

Materials Panel

The materials panel in the middle displays the required materials in order to craft the item. Material requirements can range from one material type to up to 7 material types per crafted recipe and you will need certain amounts of the required materials as well. Note that certain recipes will call for materials within a certain Category such as Solvent. In such cases, any materials belonging to this category can be used.

When crafting items, it is important to note that the crafting station will draw from your pool of resources in both your Inventory as well as any Storage Sheds you possess within the Settlement so it is not necessary to clog up your inventory with crafting materials if you have a storage shed in the current settlement. Note that Storage Sheds are not shared between Settlements. Items you have in storage in Windsward cannot be used for crafting in First Light, for example. However, you can transfer items between storage sheds from the storage menu.

 

Stonecutting Raw Gemstones

Raw Gemstones come in 4 tiers denoted by a grade: Flawed (T2), Ungraded (T3), Brilliant (T4) and Pristine (T5). Raw Gemstones are also one of the following types: 

Each type of Gemstone can be slotted into Weapons and Armor with empty gem sockets once cut, providing an offensive or defensive Perk depending on the type of item the gems are slotted into. The higher the tier of gemstone used, the bigger the more potent the Perk. For example, a Brilliant Topaz is a tier 3 raw gemstone that can be turned into a Cut Brilliant Topaz which causes a 40% damage conversion to Lightning when slotted into a Weapon or a 3% Lightning damage absorption when slotted into an Armor piece. 

Raw Gemstones can be acquired through use of the Mining skill, by mining the non-elemental nodes: Iron VeinSilver VeinGold VeinPlatinum VeinStarmetal Vein and Orichalcum Vein. Each type of gemstone can be acquired from any node but higher-tier gemstones can only be acquired from higher-tier mining nodes.

 

Fusing Gemstones

At higher skill levels, you can begin fusing several pieces of a gemstone into one piece of a higher tier gemstone of the same type. This allows you to more easily obtain higher tier gems with less effort.

 

Downgrading Materials

At higher skill levels, you can begin downgrading certain higher tier Materials into their lower tier counterparts. This is useful if you have many higher tier resources but require lower tier ones, especially if you've been spending the majority of your time in higher level areas where higher tier materials are abundant.

Special Resources and Azoth

 Special Resources and Azoth cannot be used in the Stonecutting trade skill.

 

Results Panel

Results Panel 1

The Results Panel displays information regarding the resulting item. It displays your chance to craft additional items with one crafting session. This chance can be raised by improving your Stonecutting skill, using rare materials as well as consuming crafting buff foods.

Results Panel 2

The bottom half of the Results Panel displays a slider indicating how many of the items you wish to craft with the current settings and is useful for mass crafting sessions. This section also lists the requirements which show up in Green if you meet them and in Red if you do not. At the very bottom, the Tax for the current crafting session is displayed. This tax will vary depending on what the Settlement's Governor has set for crafting in this territory. Also displayed is the amount of Skill XP gained from the crafting session. When ready, click the Craft button to create your item.

New World Stonecutting Leveling Tips

Leveling up Stonecutting in New World allows for crafting of better, more potent Food as well as improving your crafting efficiency and increasing your yield.

As a general rule, sticking to lower tier items is the recommended method for quickly leveling up a Crafting Skill. This is due to the cost of crafting items increasing exponentially as you move up in tiers, with some higher level recipes costing up to double the amount of resources to craft. Another reason to craft lower tier items for leveling is the ease of gathering resources and the relative low market cost should you choose to purchase them instead.
