Crafting allows players to create Equipment and Items in New WorldCrafting skills work as most MMO's Professions. In New World there are 7 professions: ArcanaArmoringCookingEngineeringJewelcraftingFurnishing and Weaponsmithing. Each Profession is related to the type of Equipment or Items players can create, as well as the Crafting Stations. Players can only level up each profession by crafting. Improving a profession allows players to unlock new recipes as well as to craft higher tier items.

Crafting is directly related to Gathering and Refining. If you want to learn about the related skills, check Trade Skills

Leveling Up Crafting Skills

Leveling up Crafting skills is done by continuously crafting items of the Crafting skill's type. By leveling up a certain Crafting skill, players unlock more recipes, as well as more powerful versions of already known ones. In addition, a higher Crafting level will provide certain bonuses depending on the skill and items crafted.

Stations

In order to craft an item, besides the required Crafting Skill, you also have to be in the right place. Settlements have most, if not all, Crafting Stations and Refining Stations available for the players to use at their pleasure and level up the Skill tied to the respective Station.

For example, to craft a Sword, besides having the required Weaponsmithing level demanded by the sword's recipe and the Materials, players also need to be at a Forge of the correspondent level.

Gear Score

For Crafting skills that create equipment such as Weapons and Armor, increasing the Crafting skill level will allow the player to craft gear with a higher Gear Score. Gear Score has a base value determined by the base Material used, which serve as tiers. For example, a beginner Weaponsmith will be able to craft Iron tier Weapons with a Gear Score ranging from 200 to 210 while an advanced Weaponsmith can craft the same Iron tier weapons with Gear Scores of 290 and above. Leveling up in Weaponsmithing will also unlock recipes for higher tier Weapons such as Steel which has a higher base Gear Score of 300. Additionally, higher Crafting skill levels will eventually raise the minimum Gear Score level as well.

Perks and Gem Sockets

While Crafting a piece of Equipment, it has a small chance of gaining one or more Perks or an Empty Gem Socket. While these outcomes are random, players can use the special resource Azoth during the crafting process to improve the chances of getting perks, a socket or both. Additionally, there are a large amount of special resources that can be gathered in the world that, when used during the crafting process, can dictate what Perk is added to the piece of equipment. However, there are still no guarantees that a Perk or Gem Socket will indeed be added to the piece of equipment but the chance increases as the Crafting skill level increases.

To learn about these special Resources, check the Perk Resources page.

Crafting Yield

For Crafting skills that create consumables, increasing the skill level can improve resource efficiency, yielding more items for the same amount of ingredients. For example, a beginner Arcanist will craft Healing Tinctures at a 1:1 ratio while an advanced Arcanist will have a chance of producing more tinctures per crafting attempt. This increase in efficiency becomes more evident when bulk crafting is performed, where players can see up to a 30% increase in crafting yield for the same amount of resources.
